Poetry Thursday

This week's Poetry Thursday prompt is for humorous poetry...Although my poetry is rarely humorous (tortured soul of the poet and all...), here's something I unearthed from my portfolio that struck me with its quirkiness (inspired by the smell of Ottawa in the fall, which had me convinced I was walking around with bad breath for months. I realized it was the Ottawa sewage system!)

Venice Never Smells at Night

One day, years from now, you and I
Will be walking along a Venetian canal
And you will turn to me, silhouetted
In the moonlight, and say

Darling, what is that smell?
It's not me, and it's not the canal,
So...

And that, will be that.

I love poems that force you to count away the options, and then when you get to what it has to be, you can't believe you're there.

P.S. While I am all for sparkly dress shoes, I do prefer your new profile photo!

Very funny! I love that they are in this romantic location, in the moonlight...

Thanks Jim and Thea! Re: the photo, I was just waiting for the right one to come along...This one's by far my favorite that's been taken of me in a long time.

This is great! I can completely picture something like this happening! Realistically romance is very funny afterall.
